Posted: Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:49 pmI got a sugar glider for my daughter a little over 3 weeks ago. She is supposedly 1 1/2 yrs old. In my opinion she was not very well cared for. The girl we got her from had nearly 40 suggies and said she had 69 in January. We are new to suggies but I didn't feel things were right considering her nails were extremely long. The breeder/owner said she is healthy, just needs a nail trim. She would get hung up on the bars of cage and pouch and not be able to get loose. We took her to the pet store, they couldn't trim them because they had grown into her hands. Then we took her to a vet. He had to pull them out of her hands. She came in a tiny hampster cage which I was told she was content with and has spent her life in it. The only thing in that cage was a miniature hampster wheel and a tiny bird toy with wooden blocks.
We have since bought her a large cage, stealth wheel and some new toys. She does not play with anything though she absolutely loves her wheel. At night she runs, climbs all over the cage, runs, etc, etc. Anybody have any ideas on how to teach her to play?
When we first got her she was a serious biter! We spend every evening in a tent with her. She now climbs all over us, grooms us, and goes to sleep in my pant leg! She won't let us hold her in our cupped hands, she bites really hard. I try to take the bites but sometimes she draws blood and it really hurts. I feel we have made significant progress.
I got a feather teaser and a finger thingy but she is doesn't play with them either. Think it will just take more time???
