well i would keep him away for a while, and maybe let the cage on the floor so they can explore each other safely,  you will be able to see the gliders reaction pretty well, if he wants to explore it, and you really think its safe, after a few cage intros id hold the glider near the dog and see how he reacts, but if he tries to run and hide from the dog i would never introduce them.
i know most people say to never let other animals near( and not sure i would), but i guess its possible for them to get along, so im trying to be more open to this idea. But please watch them read close, things can happen quick., expecialy with big dogs. dont think i would ever let 2 dogs be with the glider at the same time though, that would be too much to try and control.

One thing i did when i had kittens is i would put bumbum in a big rolly ball and let him roll around the house in that, that way the kittens couldnt get him, they actually ran from him! pretty funny to watch :) but even then i was always watching them.

right now i've got Gizmo in a 1 1/2 foot tall cage... but once i get him bonded with me i plan on buying a MUCH taller cage... i figure right now while im trying to bond with him it will be easier with the smaller cage.. then when i've got him so that he'll come to me without me having to bribe him... ill get him a nice tall cage so that he can climb.. (they're arboreal so they LOVE climbing)

but hey im new... so take it from the pros

Absolute minimum height based on own experiences and wild observations is 6 foot. I have seen gliders kept in smaller cages and they don't show normal behaviour as opposed to those kept in larger cages or observed in the wild.

What kind of metal is it?  Is it coated?  Gliders can get urinary tract infections from galvenized steel.  Thats why most everyone agree's that pvc coated or powder coated metal cages are the best to use.

My cage is just under 6ft tall, but my gliders also have their own room to play in after Tent Time.

I talked to this one guy that owns sugar gliders at this one reptile show that has exotic animals and he said that i could use, i think he said a 10oz aquarium at first because he said it would really help me bond with my sugar glider because they would always be looking for me to let her out and play with her. I havn't gotten a sugar glider yet but i really want to i did a lot of research on them too.Tongue

Animalluvr,
A 10 Gallon aquarium is definitely not appropriate to house a Sugar Glider in! The air circulation is very poor and it wouldn't be a healthy environment. The people at the Reptile Shows are likely from Perfect Pocket Pets, and if so, they are well-known for handing out false information. Michelle is absolutely correct, the SGGA is going to be wonderful. I really do wish I could go, but I'm all the way in south Florida. ='(

Please log on to www.birdandcage.com (Bird & Cage Co.) and click on "Wrought Iron" on the left hand side of the website (under "Cages"), scroll down until you see "Wrought Iron Cage 480", that is a wonderful model and I use it for one of my Sugar Glider colonies. Many people use different models of this cage and it works great. This is a very reputable company and I've ordered from them many times without a single problem. =)
Thank you.
Lauren
