Hello everyone!

I am fairly new to the world of sugar gliders, a couple of weeks ago I didn't even know what the sweet things were! But, I am looking to buy a sugar glider but I don't know what type of cage to get, some websites say it needs a very special coating on the cage bars and that the bars need to be horizontal, but it also needs to be very large. I cannot seem to find a cage that meets all these requirements. I have found a cage that has the coating but is not large enough and have found several large cage with no coating or vertical bars. :? I need a cage that has all these requirements.... Any ideas?

Also, does it matter if it is steel, or wire mesh? Are there any special features you have to have?

A large powder-coated tower cage is all you need. The idea is to stay away from bare galvanized wire. Needs a bottom grate and a catch pan. Horizontal bars are not necessary but might be preferable where possible. Also, you want a large door. Some of the medium cages might have a top and bottom door which are both too small to remove exercise wheels and whatnot, so make sure the one or two doors are tall enough.

You can find some suggested cage links here:

Thank you so much! :D That is exactly what I needed. I have only one more question, is there a minimum size a cage should be? For a pair of sugar gliders?

I did find the cage, the Madagascar, from the sugar glider superstore? The dimensions are 48(height) x24 (wide)x24 (deep). And there is a powder coating. Would this be a suitable cage?

Sure. Thats a nice cage. Take note of the door style though. You absolutely want a door that swings out and latches closed. And it must be large enough to get at least a Wodent Wheel into if nothing else. The larger open wheels often have issues getting into cages with small doors.

MUST have at least one 11" or larger exercise wheel.

You can calculate cage volume: Internal length x width x height = cubic inches.

So 24 x 24 x 48 = 27648

Then use that to compare cages. I tend to like the cages that are more rectangular, maybe 18 x 36 x 67 = 43416, almost twice as much room.

Some of those cages listed are 30" x 18" x 56 = 30240 and have large doors. So make sure you are getting the best you can for the cash you are spending.

One last suggestion is to absolutely make sure the cage can pass through your doors. I have one that is 30 x 30 and it fits only through my back sliding glass door with the stop removed. Or I can take the door off the tracks... So again I tend to prefer the narrow by longer or rectangular because they are easier to handle.

Thank you so much! I have had some trouble finding cages with the dimensions you mentioned but I think the Congo, from sugar glider superstore, but if you know any websites that might be better or cages that have better dimensions it would be much appreciated.
