Our little Lucy is 9 weeks OOP and new to us last week from a breeder here in Dallas Tx.

Over the past couple days she has been having a hard time going poo and makes a hissing/wheezing sound when trying.  It sounds liek she is in pretty great pain when trying to go.  I am trying to keep her as hydrated as she will allow for thoughts that she may be dehydrated.  The Breeder told us to give her red apple and peanut butter and add some gatorade to her water.

SHe's not perking up and sounds like she is just getting more and more tired.  She's not wanting us to handle her assumably because she is in pain.  Where she poos from seems swollen and like a little ball shape, I never looked before i felt like she wasa having an issue so it may look like this all the time, that I don't know.

Can anyone help?  What did you feed or do to get them to calm down?

Thanks,

Justin and Kristin

I am also wondering is she could be constipated?

What breeder did you get her from?  Any breeder that recommends that diet is likely a mill breeder.  If not a mill breeder, they are very uneducated about the dietary needs of gliders and the overall health issues of gliders.

When was her health check by an experienced vet?

Couple of things that you need to do:

1)  You must get her on a better diet ASAP - like yesterday.

2)  Get her to a vet and have her checked for parasites, dehydration and infection.

3)  Get plugged in to the larger glider community available to you at glidercentral.net

You are welcome to call me any time with glider related questions or concerns.

My gliders get diarrhea if I give them muskmelon for several days.  Try keeping the glider on a fruit diet (not watermelon as this causes gas).
