I am a long haul truck driver. I received a sugar glider (grey and black stripped) from my aunt who rases them in Indpls., In.. she gave me every thing I need to have my first sugar glider companion. I named him Fester he was 2 months old when i received him. I used the bonding pounch religously for 3 weeks. dearing that 3 weeks he was put in a cage on my truck to get him familarized with his serounding invirment. If you love some thing do you keep it caged or set it free. I dont believe in a caged love. So when Fester graduated from the bonding pouch his reward was a open cage. Yes he had full run of the truck 24/7. I started using the cage as a disopline. I learned that sugar gliders are alot smarter then any 1 giving them credit for. Fester learned to stay away from the drivers doors when i wasn't in the truck. He all so learned that when i called his name he was to respond letting me know were he was. Yes they are that smart. But you have to spend more time then most even think of. Fester was my companion we both lived in the same cage ( Semi Truck). On 11-25-13 I had just finished a 14hr work day my last back was a blind side back meaning i had to only use my right side mirror the mirror control is right above the window control. while backing up you adjust the mirror as you go. I did not relize i had bumped the window control and it rolled down about 1". Before i went to bed i checked my drivers window and the tempature outside 21% fer (dam cold). when i woke up i knew he was dead he had not pesterd me all night, i jumped up out of my bunk and started calling for him then i started looking around and discovered the passenger window was open about 1". I checked the outside tempature it was 18% fer. I never found Fester. I never relized how many times he had saved my life pestering me on those long night drives keeping me awake. I all so had never bonded to an animal Beyond a normal pet. I placed a memorial were i was parked.
