Stumbled across this site and thought i would sign up as i keep sugar gliders, among other native animals, etc. My main question is regarding the cage sizes commonly used in the states. I'm reading posts about large cages being 6 foot tall by 3 foot wide and 2 foot deep. I would never keep any of my gliders in an enclosure that small, even with regular outings/playtime. Even if the gliders are given free time for several hours every night, that still leaves many many hours of being stuck in a small cage while they are wide awake. I beleive if somebody can't afford or have the room for a large enclosure, they shouldn't be keeping sugar gliders if they care. There are many animals that i would love to keep but i've accepted that i won't have room and ultimately i won't be able to care for them as they should be. So i enjoy them in the wild, read literature, etc. My current enclosure is 15 foot long by 15 foot wide by 8 foot high. I would love to give them something bigger, and i will when i have more room. They love using all the available space. It really saddens me to hear that people overseas are keeping gliders in cages only 32 inches by 20 inchs by 20 inches. In my opinion that is animal cruelty, but people will do as they will. I find it amazing that a human is able to justify almost anything to themselves, while others may not be convinced. Other than that i love sugar gliders. I also have a croc named charlie, he's enclosure takes up most of the yard. He's got a massive waterfall and pond. Any other glider owners with large enclosures?
