I also acquired a 1year old male from someone that had not bonded with it. I used thick gardening gloves and held it all day and night for as long of periods as I could..stopping only to bath or cook, sleep.
He became bonded to me after about 3 weeks. He will now crawl ontop of my head and sit there. He doesn't try to bite anymore...as I would give him treats. He seems used to my routine of sitting at the pc writing and crawls over my shoulders and head while I am reading.
You must have a lot of time in order to do this or work in a field that allows you to take them with you. They are very shy creatures and don't like bright light. It is best to darken the room, dim lighting when trying to hold them and bond.
