Yes I have heard that Gliders are notorious at hiding illnesses until they get progressively worse. I thought it might be overgrooming more than SM. I finally sold my joey, Chloe, someone is coming by in an hour or so to come and get her! Thanks for all of your help, they aren't doing it as much anymore but I'm still going to take them to the vet to have it looked at.
Well, our vet appointment had gone well, she told me that the Gliders were fine and overgrooming due to stress, but they had not broken skin yet and to contact her if they should. She explained they may be overgrooming because of the colony in the cage next to them (Bandit, Sheila and her 2 joeys). I moved them and put a sheet over the cage, they were fine for a while. They just started doing it again though, still haven't heard the SM sound. However, they were urinating. Aussie's genitalia looked VERY red (redder than usual) and Scooter was peeing out blood. I called my veterinarian immediately, and they are going in first thing tomorrow morning. Could this be a urinary tract infection? That's what I thought at first? Could they be trying to get rid of their pain through chewing on their tails? Please help me.
I know, I'm trying to set something up. This is the reason I'm switching vets, their hours suck. They are NEVER available when I need them. My father said one of his friends is a well-recommended exotic veterinarian in our area, he's going to be home from work in 10 minutes and then we are going to see him. I'll let all of you know how the appointment goes. But, could it be a urinary tract infection?
I took them both in for veterinary exams, the bleeding has stopped and they don't seem to be overgrooming as much anymore. Sorry I haven't updated, everything here has been very hectic. They are doing alright now, it was a urinary tract infection. The vet gave them both some medication which I have been using as directed, and they seem to be doing a lot better! =) I will keep everyone informed. Anybody know how to post pictures DIRECTLY to the forum?
