Hello Everyone!
This is my first post here, and I am the proud owner of two sugar gliders! I got them about 3 weeks ago and things have been going great. They are two brothers (same parents, different litters), one being 12 weeks out of pouch and the other is about 4 months. They get along great, but my question today is regarding their diet!
I have been following the diet that their previous owner gave me to stick to what they're used too, but I have been concerned about how much/what they are eating. I live in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the ONLY sugar glider food available is Sunscription Vita (http://www.petdiscounters.com/Quiko-Sun ... p4866.html) in the local pet stores (and this is the food they are used too). The directions say that the pellets should make up 50% of their diet with fresh fruit and vegetables making up the other half.
I find they are eating VERY little pellets which makes me worry I am giving them too much fresh food at night (the pellets are always in the cage). I would estimate they are probably eating 1tsp of pellets each per day. Also, I have been having trouble finding fruits and veggies they like, but I am getting there!
Question 1: Can someone just give me a general estimate of how much I should be feeding them for fresh food per day? Because right now there is ALWAYS food left in the bottom of the dish when I take it out the next morning.
Question 2: Should they be getting any form of supplement? As the food directions does not say anything about one, so I have been assuming there is enough vitamins and minerals in the food alone.
Question 3: Does anyone have any suggestions of more foods to try? Here is what I've found so far:
Like: Pear, coconut, corn, peas, lettuce, yogurt (small amounts), baby food (always low sugar/sodium)
Sometimes: Kiwi, apple
Dislike: Tomatoes, pineapple, potato, carrot, green peppers
Thank you so much!
