What I know is that a friend of a friend posted on facebook that a sugar glider needed a good home, all accessories, etc... I went and looked at her and we ended up taking her. Apparently a different family owner her. The guy I got her from was doing a bathroom remodel at the house and the owner of the house said here take this with you.... It was the sugar glider. Apparently his daughter wasn't taking care of her. The cage was in the back of the garage, so my assumption is that she did not recieve much, if any attention. This guy brought her home but his wife said, 'no way, 6 kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats'.... so here we are and now she's mine.
I have spent a lot of time watching a veterinarian on youtube talk about his, diets, etc.... She really doesn't smell much at all, the only part that smelled was her cage as I don't think it's EVER been washed down, nor has her pouch or another item in the cage been washed. They reak of urine. I have washed, bleached, washed and washed again. The smell is finally starting to go away. I can reach in, let her smell me first and I can pet her all I want. She will take food from my hands, she will come into my hands to eat. I can not pick her up. If I try with my bare hands, she will crab at me and nip. When she eats from my hands, she will sit in my hand, BUT it seems like the second she senses we are leaving her cage, she freaks and will try to flee away from me. Again, I can reach back in and touch, pet, no problems. I can touch her cheeks, forehead, hands all while she is eating. I can remove her pouch and carry her along wth me through out the day, but if she's not in a pouch of some sort, there is no way I can hold her.
Anyone have any tips? I have no idea how old she is. I do believe it is a she as she does not have the 'bald spot' on her head or chest they speak of on the males and she has let me rub her belly a bit to where I do see the "opening" to her pouch (I think) around where the belly button would be.
Can anyone help????
