I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but if anyone would know what to do about it, the ladies and gentlemen of this forum board would. Mods, please feel free to move this to a more fitting location, should I have selected the wrong board.
I was in Stratford mall (near chicago) this afternoon and happened upon a display for a company called Pocket Pets. As I got closer I realized that they were selling sugar gliders. One of the last places I would take a creature like a sugar glider is a mall on Black friday, but there they were being sold as "sugar bears". As I took a look around to see what else was going on I noticed they were selling "beginner sets" that claimed to have everything a sugar glider needed to be healthy and happy -- including a heating rock for lizards. They were also selling a diet mix that claimed to have complete nutrition--which was a dry cereal like product that resembled Coco Flakes.
To make matters worse, as I looked at one the sugar glider they were showing off, the back half of its backside was groomed down almost to the skin. I was so upset by this I made my family leave the mall before I started crying.
I have included their website below for those who want to see...looking how long they've been in business maybe this isn't news to the glider community, but when they show a glider that has obviously been over-grooming like it's nothing, it causes me a lot of concern. I've had my own two sweethearts from a breeder for three years and couldn't believe they were being sold so casually! I apologize if this is a waste of a post, but I thought I should get the word out.
Thanks for reading.
