Today I found a joey walking around the bottom of the cage, then quickly it went back into the big pouch. I looked inside the pouch and there were 2 joeys curled up between mommy and daddy. For the past couple of hours now I keep finding the one joey out and about. At first it was really walking around and climbing, although it did end up having a fall, about 9 inches down. Later he fell just over a branch and ended up on his back. When he's on the pouch itself the daddy will peek out and tug on it to bring it back in so it doesn't seem fully rejected, but once I found it curled up by the food bowl and put it in myself. I believe they're only about 1 week OOP, the eyes are still closed. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do. I'm worried I'm going to find this little guy frozen on the bottom of the cate in the morning
Yep, You are going to have a long next few days. Are the parents young??? This is suzs website she is the expert on rejected joeys. Your parents should have a better handle on things, so ya I am worried right along with you!
I'll check it out. This is their second litter. The first one only had one joey and it was fine. I had him for 3 months then found him a home, but had no issues at all. I'm pretty sure it's the same one leaving every time, would this mean they're just rejecting one and the other one is being cared for?
I just fed the parents and checked the bag, and both joeys are in the pouch. The one I'm worried about is very active and mobile. He's rarely just still. The other one is very still but alive, I did check.
How is she reacting to the remaining joey???? She may not have been producing enough milk for 2 or there may be something wrong with the joey. Call Suz from that link I gave you in my above post! I am so sorry! Thats why new joeys must be monitored until they are weaned. Anything can go wrong! Please consider getting your male neutered (((((HUGS)))))
