Hi I just got a "male" sugar glider "joey" today... It turns out Jack is really Jill. The guy I got the glider from accidently sold me the mom instead of the baby. Oops... and he said she might have new babys in the pouch I'm not sure if I'm going to keep her or not, I guess it depends on weather or not they want to make the 5 hour drive because I'm not doing that again! I'm a little concerned though. She is losing hair on her head. It's not like how the males get a bald spot, it goes from her nose along her black stripe and to her neck. I'll post pictures soon. Does anyone know what this could be from? The skin underneath looks just fine.
sounds like She is overgrooming. Some say its caused by stress, some say it starts as stress and becomes a nervous habit. If she has joeys in pouch she needs her mate as the dad does a lot of the caretaking with the joeys. She may even pull her babies. Beleive you me if I had made that mistake I would have already been at your house picking up my already stressed mom and giving you the joey! I hope this is not a reputable breeder. That makes me want to go slappin people.
I guess she's here to stay. She has been pushed to her limit from over breeding and she's already made friends with one of my other suggies, Alice We finally got to hold her today and she's real thin so we gave her tons of mealworms! We got her from some people living in a trailer that run a doggy day care... could explain part of the stress. We're doing everything we can to get her healthy (and after these ones are born no more babies!) Is there anything we should give her to help her out?
