Need help

Hello,

I have a 3 year old glider. He is good when I pet him and I can even rub his belly. The only problem that I have is when I try to pick him up under his belly to place him in a pouch or in my pocket when he bites me. He bites so hard that he draws blood. Everytime when I do get him out of the cage he is still seems scared. I got him and he was not hand trained too well. I use to not be able to be pet him without him biting me. What can I do so he knows I won't do anything to him when I try to pick him up? That is the only time when he bites. If I get him not to bite when I pick him up I will be one happy parent. Please help!!! Thank you!!!

This is pretty common with sugar gliders. I havent met one yet that likes to be grabbed. I have very tame ones that will still nip when you do something hey dont like.

My suggestion is that you have one that is not going to become the super tame ball of fluff that you want. So find out where the line is and dont cross it. It sounds to me that you should not try to grab or pick up the animal but instead handle it by brushing it onto your hand or back of wrist.

Many are just like that.

I'll bet if you find him a cage mate his behavior will noticeably change.
