I moved to Georgia a couple years ago and own a sugarglider. I know it is illegal, but he is my pet and I am not going to give him up when I am 45 minutes from another state where they are legal ( I can get a vet in that state if I need it). My question is if anyone knows if there is a "harsh" penalty if there was an issue of me having my pet? Secondly, I have a job where I cannot spend as much time with him and would like to get him a "buddy" but I am having a hard time finding where I can purchase another glider, should I not risk it buying it out of state? or am I just paranoid about the whole state law thing?
Hi, I live in Georgia and I wanted to get a sugar glider, I still do. I have actually called up to see what the penalty was. The guy told me it was a 200-700 fine and they will take the sugar glider away. My whole thing is, who is going to come in your house and tell on you? Not like the police are just going to come up and say "hey, can I check your house for weird creatures." But I do understand the paranoia. I am very paraniod too, that is why I don't have a suger glider yet, but I am really thinking about it, being that I am 5 minutes away from the alabama border. WEll, I hope this helps a little and keep your pet, becasue he is your friend. Have a good day!
The only thing I'd ever be concerned about is anyone looking for some kind of revenge or retribution: maybe a fight with a neighbor about a fence, say, who knows, or a landlord, and ex, etc. who might call. Other than that, I can't imagine how you'd get found out (unless someone starts to subpoena the membership rolls of this board... ahem... maybe John Ashcroft? )
A short Google search will certainly tell you if they are legal in one state or another. There are lots of sites on the subject, but unfortunately each seem to have info on a different set of states!joeonsunset38059.0545023148
